welcome to 2020-2021 school year we have a tremendous staff and I'm confident that we're going to have a great year no matter what obstacles put in our place we all understand that Kent County is better only School doors are open and on July 7th and we've been working on this plan for the last few weeks with the main objective is to keep are doors open with our kids healthy and ginger are ties D is committed to have a safe clean and complete return to school on August 13th we all know the division that the situation I'm going to ask you as well as myself to accept being uncomfortable because my accepting being uncomfortable that's going to ensure that our kids are safe and that the school doors are open can I use an example and have my wife and Ellie here today for that example in 2004 my wife and I travel to the Royal Gorge suspension bridge in Colorado and if you know anything about the Royal Gorge Bridge is Alan Peter Kraus 1000 feet high above the Arkansas River you can actually see through the slats people rafting below you and so this crossing the bridge made me feel very very uncomfortable and so I got to the bridge and I grabbed my wife's hand and squeeze it and try to do a speed walk all the way across the bridge describe my experience at the fridge cuz I was so excited David Majestic size in the gorgeous so beautiful and they're actually sounds across the bridge where you can stop and see the highest bungee jump from the Royal Gorge but I didn't get to see any of that because arm is almost pulled out of socket as my husband did a 45 degree lean speed walking across the Royal Gorge Bridge and her family goes to Disney World and or one day or walking up to the roller coaster speed me and it's called the Expedition Everest in so Charlie didn't want to go on it so I was like I'm not going to be uncomfortable today and so Ashley and and Elli go on the roller coaster and Ellie gets off and she says will you go on a date with me and so of course I have to go on it with her and so it was a lying on the road it was fun and you were very uncomfortable and you were screaming your head off your holding on tight to the VAR why would I go on at with you in the morning for me. So I was uncomfortable in the situation with my wife she adjusted for me crossing the bridge and in the situation with Ellie I just did for her and so to keep the doors open we're all going to have to be uncomfortable weather is physically or whether it's philosophically we're just going to have to need to embrace being uncomfortable like any challenge to the Jaybird space we're going to ignore it and we're going to do her with excellent and so I asked that we Embrace being uncomfortable and that we all know the culture of our school in Arkham will get us through these difficult situations directions to Summit talked a little bit about our students of when they come in the building and we have a little video will show you what that's going to look the Winston dinner the building in the morning what they will be required to wear is some type of face covering and we're going to talk first about the face shield are Pre-K to 2nd graders will wear when they are in the classroom and doing fasting. And this is what Pre-K to 2nd graders will wear in their classroom a little smaller version of this allows our teachers and staff we wearing these as well this allows for teachers to see students faces and four foods to see teachers faces as well and for there to be open communication and Pre-K to 2nd grade will be wearing buchroeders will also have the option of wearing a face shield but if they would also like to wear their own type of face covering the district is my cat thinking where students want to wear Hanover something to cover the nose and the mouth and we also have this option to district is purchase the shield that can go on half the students that want to wear hats in the building you may wear that as long as your face shield is attached to your hat and so we are going to wear those all throughout the day but I do want to let you know that teachers are going to use their discretion especially when it is in a state to allow you to be able to take those off at some during the day in the classroom to where you will be able to not have to wear these all day but our main goal is to keep you safe and to keep our adults safe and for learning to take place as best as you can obviously during lunch and PE in athletics students will not have to wear the face covering our best to keep you socially distance and keep you safe and to have a great year did you pain entering the building each morning to staff members will take students temperature that will sanitize their hands and they will make sure a face covering is worn by the student into the building do the temperature if I should have the temperature of more than 100.4 in the staff member will take the temperature again and if it is above 100.4 again in the parents will be contacted once the students are in the they will go to a designated area for breakfast so what you need to know is if your sister is a Pre-K to second grader just like if your students of third through 12th grader the first three weeks of school will be in Grace figuring out what works best for you Jewel or in class pre-k through second after that three-week Grace. You can come on and off campus at 6 weeks grading . if the student is a third through 12th grader they can come on at the three weeks or the six weeks and please remember that has to do with whether the student is under an asynchronous plan or synchronous plan which is 3rd through 12th hopefully we'll see me and if not just know that we will provide everything that you need to help you with your life while you're at home so please stay safe and we hope to see you soon
